Artist's Comments

Almost a year after To Columbus. This isn't the end of car and city subject matter, but I think I'm done with the scribbles for now, at least in paint. It was worth a try for the series I've been doing, but I miss my round brushstrokes.

Acrylic on canvas, 30"x20".

I think the 'scribbles' give the viewer a bit of the feeling of being in another car; the view ahead being slightly obscured by the windshield of their own car, and the weather. It gives another dimention, and depth. Much more interesting than if you were to paint the scene straight, without the obscurity. You get the feeling that it's not a static scene. The cars are stopped for a moment, but they will move again when the light changes. I like this effect for this subject a lot!

Thanks, what a great perspective!! I didn't even realize that's what I was doing, but your description makes so much sense. After your lovely comment and the feedback from the sale today, I'm not tired of scribbles anymore. :) I know they're not right for everything, but I agree that in something like this they work very well. If I'm gonna be painting traffic, I better make it look interesting. ;)

Very nice, rainy streets but clear sky? I love the colors, as always. Did you mean to draw that car out of perspective? lol j/k !! I'd be painting them all "out" since you have now sold that one heh. I love the green on those trees. My eyes keep going back to them.

Basically pretty awesome. Your colors look great and have a effortless quality about them. How long did this take? I fear I'm dreadfully slowwwww.

And you're the best painter of trafic that I've ever seen! That's why I've faved every one of them! It's a congruent body of work, and it rocks!

What a great perspective! It feels like I'm sitting in a car looking out at the scene, which by the way is so vibrant and colourful. It's a great take on city life :)

Pain lasts only a minute,
Resounds through generations forever;
The aftermath, it spells my name.

Perfect as always. ;P But I really like the lighting...it creates a bit of a gloomy feeling even though there's lots of chroma.

Not a clear sky, but a bright one. One of those on-again off-again rainy days. ;) I know it can be hard to tell when I don't give too many details.

I don't remember exactly how long this took me. :) I started it in the summer; the drawing took probably two hours. I had figured out my colors sometime during the summer but I don't remember how much time I spent with that. I finished the painting part one day after school to turn in as a final, so that's a few more hours. Once my teacher said it was cool, I think I put another two hours into fixing some details and painting the edges of the canvas and stuff. So, not too slow... but it definitely took more effort and care than it may appear!
